There is something magical about learning to ride a bike.
For a child, riding a bike is much more than a milestone—it is freedom, confidence, independence, and pure joy. It opens doors to neighborhood adventures, family bike rides, friendships, and the pride that comes from mastering something that once felt hard.
At Express Yourself Pediatric Therapy, we are excited to offer our Summer Bike Riding Intensive, a specialized program led by our skilled pediatric physical therapists who know how to make learning fun, motivating, and successful for every child.
Many children need extra support learning to ride—and that is okay.
Bike riding requires balance, coordination, core strength, motor planning, body awareness, visual attention, confidence, and emotional regulation. For some children, especially those with sensory differences, motor coordination challenges, low muscle tone, anxiety, or difficulty with confidence, learning to ride can feel overwhelming. With the right support, children can build the foundational skills they need in a way that feels exciting, empowering, and fun.
Our bike intensive uses a playful, child-centered approach that breaks bike riding into manageable steps. We meet children where they are—whether they are just beginning, nervous to try, or have been practicing for years without success. Through encouragement, movement-based games, confidence-building activities, and skilled physical therapy strategies, we help children move toward safe and independent riding.
The benefits go far beyond the bike itself. Children build stronger balance and coordination, improve endurance and strength, develop body awareness, practice problem-solving and motor planning, and gain confidence through persistence and success. Most importantly, they experience movement in a joyful, meaningful way—and they get to feel proud of themselves.
At Express Yourself Pediatric Therapy, we are proud to support families throughout Palatine, Cook County, Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Lake Zurich, and Barrington. Families across the northwest suburbs choose Express Yourself because of our playful, relationship-based approach, our highly trained therapy team, and our commitment to helping children build skills through joy, connection, and confidence.
If your child is ready to learn to ride—or just needs the right support to get there—this summer could be their summer.
